Sounds like you had a great time. Foreigners usually have more fun visiting Vietnam than the people who actually live there.

I tip my bowler hat to Saint Charlie Chaplin and walk away in my ruffled suit swinging my cane. Chaplin at least made people laugh and I doubt if we'll see anyone go to war over which side of his head he tipped his bowler...

..although you never know.

Vietnam is definitely a Communist country. I have a pastor aquaintance who is a native of Vientam who is regularly brought in to the authorities and questioned...rather roughly. They believe the US is planning a takeover and using Christianity as the means to undermine the government. They give the US way too much credit for being that smart. :-) Regardless of where you stand on things, take your freedom of religion (or lack of religions, because it used to be that to reject "the Church" was punished by death) seriously. These conversations are a luxury those in many Communist countries don't have the right to do out in the open.

I know many native people of Vietnam and they are wonderful folks. You are right, Buddism is a very appealing religion.

It's a strange religion, Caodaism. It was practically invented as a mercenary army in the fight for independence.

I use it as an example of how religion really do just pop up out of literally nowhere, and how modern prophetic claims are no less ridiculous than old ones.
